Purification and characterization of antimicrobial peptide present in the gill epidermal mucoprotein of upeneus vittatus (forsskal, 1775)

Author: NATARAJAN ELAYAPERUMAL
Abstract: The investigation of the Purification and Charecterization of antimicrobial proteins/peptides Present in the Gill Epidermal mucoprotein (GEM) of Upeneus vittatus (Forsskal, 1775), a teleost fish, was examined to utilize mixes of the natural resistance in aquaculture and for human pathogens. The purification procedure involved by a combination of Sep-Pak, cationic exchange-HPLC and RP-HPLC. The Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra in sodium phosphate buffer (NaPB) were characteristic of Beeta-sheet and random coil with glutamine as amino acid side chains. . The 30% of acetonitrile elutes (30 µg) caused a zone restraint with a width of 0-18.4 mm relying upon the salt focus and the organism tried. The antimicrobial action of the protein was thermostable, staying present even after incubation at 800C for 10 min. It can be concluded that gill extract protein demonstrated a solid antimicrobial action in vitro against a wide range of microorganisms without critical hemolytic movement.
