FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OFAN EMULGEL OF A BCS CLASS II DRUG

Author: MAYANK SAINI, SHEETAL SINGH, SUSHMA VERMA
Abstract: The purpose of this research work has been made to prepare and characterized ketoconazole emulgel by using two type of polymer that are as Carbopol 934(synthetic polymer) and Xanthum gum ( natural polymer). Effect of the type of gelling agent and the concentration of oil phase and emulsifying agent in the prepared emulgel was investigated by the 23 factorial designs Now days, the topical preparation emulgel is one of the most promising dosage form which gives better patient compliance. Mostly the emulgel was formulated by using carbolpol and methyl cellulose, but in this Project ketoconazoleemulgel was formulated as topical preparation using two type of polymer carbopol 934 and xanthum gum. In this research 8 formulations were formulate namelyM1, M2, M3, M4, M5, M6, M7 & M8 using two polymers. All formulation contains (+2.5% to -1.5%) emulsifying agent (+7.5% to -5%) oil concentration. And each prepared emulgel wascharacterized by various parametersthat are as pH, rheological studies, spreadability, viscosity & drug content. Among the eight formulations the best one was selected on the basis of drug content & drug release parameters M5 was found to be the best one. Stability studies showed that the physical appearance, rheological study and in vitro drug release in all the prepared emulgel remained unchanged upon storage for 3 months. It was suggested that the emulgel formulation achieve the desired drug release for sustained drug delivery in a controlled manner.
