Heterocyclic Ring System is Probe for Designing of Anticonvulsant Compounds

Author: , MALPANI SURAJMAL GANESHLAL, PRADEEPKUMAR MOHANTY
Abstract: Heterocyclic ring system is present in natural products, various categories of drugs, vitamins and biologically active compounds. Epilepsy is a collective term for a group of chronic CNS disorders. All kinds of epilepsies display the occurrence of unprovoked, excessive, sudden, self-regulated neuronal discharge that results in a seizure. Because of excessive neuronal discharge, the finely organized pattern of the integrative activity of the brain is abolished. For treatment of Epilepsy have limited approaches and drugs available have shown variable untoward effects resulting into limited therapeutic outcomes The development of new chemical entities in treatment of epilepsy is the focus of pharmaceutical industry. This review covers new anticonvulsant molecules of various chemical classes like oxathiazolidine-4-one-2,2-dioxide, acetamide, pyrrolidine-2,5-diones, sulphonamide, triazole, amino acid derivatives, Semicarbazone and thiosemicarbazone. Exact mechanism of action still not identified by researchers but most of them binds to Benzodiazepine receptor. These new chemical entities can be useful for the design and development effective and safe anticonvulsant agents.
