Correlation of clinical presentation, histopathology and polymerase chain reaction for diagnosis of genital tuberculosis at rural hospital

Author: DR. GARG, DR. SUNITA VAGHA, S.S.KHEDKAR
Abstract: Background: Genital TB is in general a silent invader there is difficulty in diagnosis due to varied clinical presentation, different microbiological, histopathological, laproscopic and imaging tests. Diagnosis of GTB by PCR along with histopathological findings leads to high sensitivity and specificity. So, both diagnostic and operative laproscopy and hysteroscopy are the modalities essential for management of genital TB in infertile women. Objectives: To study the clinical presentations, histopathological features and TB-PCR in suspected cases of genital tuberculosis and to correlate them. Methodology: This cross sectional observational study will be conducted on 50 suspected cases of genital tuberculosis. Clinical presentation, histopathological features of endometrial/ fallopian tube specimens and TB-PCR will be correlated. Results: We anticipate PCR positivity in these cases corresponding to histopathological findings. We expect a positive correlation between PCR positivity, histopathological correlation and clinical presentation for early diagnosis of genital tuberculosis. Conclusion: The study will make an attempt to make an accurate diagnosis of genital tuberculosis. Investigations like histopathological examination and polymerase chain reaction are of valuable help in diagnosis of patients of genital tuberculosis.
Keyword: Genital TB, polymerase chain reaction.
