VISCERAL ADIPOSITY INDEX IN PRE-HYPERTENSIVES

Abstract: Background: Nowadays hypertension is becoming more and more common problem. In many countries hypertension (HTN) is becoming a global burden. So there should be early recognition of individuals with hypertension. There is mortality associated with hypertension. The association between obesity over the abdomen and HTN remains unclear. Measurements such as BMI, WC, WHR cannot find the difference between visceral and subcutaneous fat. Till now there has been no studies regarding utilizing VAI to predict Hypertension. Hence, this study aims to find out whether VAI can be used to predict HTN incidence in community based pre hypertensives. Objectives: in this study we have planned to study Visceral Adiposity Index in Pre-hypertensive subjects and To correlate with anthropometric parameters like Body mass index, Waist circumference, Waist Hip Ratio, and Lipid profile. Methodology: This cross-sectional study includes Subjects who undergo examination for measurement of anthropometric indices. Relevant personal history regarding hypertension, use of cardioactive medications will be enquired as well as any other chronic ailments & entered in proforma. Expected Result: As per previous studies in Chinese population, we are expecting result suggestive of relationship between blood pressure and visceral adiposity index and patient with high blood pressure showing high visceral adiposity index.
