Author: UPLOADED BY-ADMIN, RAJAT SINGH, R.K.BACHHETI, SHIVA SARASWAT, SANTOSH KUMAR SINGH
Abstract: Plant metabolites have been the target of researchers from a long time in the preparation of herbal formulations. One of the important aspects of folkloric remedies is to find out the compounds effective against microbial pathogens and lowering the free radical induced lipid peroxidation levels. Bauhinia variegata is used in many Ayurvedic preparations and has been observed to show many medicinal properties. The aim of the present study was to find out the antibacterial and antioxidant potential of Bauhinia variegate. A qualitative phytochemical analysis was performed for the detection of alkaloids, fixed oil, phenolic compounds, proteins, carbohydrates, glycosides and flavonoids. The results obtained from this study reveals that Bauhinia variegata possess high antibacterial and antioxidant compounds. It was further observed that the enhanced protection from oxidative damage could be correlated with the high contents of phenolics, proline and ascorbate levels.
