Arch form variations in class 1 patients undergoing orthodontic therapy

Abstract: The aim of this study was to assess the various arch forms in class 1 patients undergoing orthodontic therapy. The study setting is mainly a type of university based and a single centered study. This retrospective study examined the records of patients from June 2019 to April 2020 who underwent treatment at Saveetha dental college, Chennai. Case records of 1200 patients who underwent treatment were collected. Patient’s records were reviewed and then data was extracted. The data was recorded, tabulated and the percentage calculated. Data was recorded in excel and later exported IBM SPSS software. Pearson chi square test was done to statistically analyse the data. Out of the total study population, 67.5% of the patients were in the age group of 10-20 years, 27.7% of the patients were between the age group of 20-30 years and 4.8% of the patients were in the age group of 30-40 years. 42.5% of the study population had ovoid arch form, 32.58% had square arch form and 24.92% had tapering arch form, of which 47.5% were males and 52.5% were female patients respectively. Out of the total study population, Majority of the patients had ovoid arch form, followed by square arch form and tapering arch form. The arch form is the unique expression of individual development .Thus, a study on arch forms is an important aspect of diagnosis and treatment planning.
