Anti-inflammatory activity of Acacia catechu bark extract against raw 264.7 macrophage cell line

Author: LAKSHMI.T , ANITHA ROY, KAVIYA N.E
Abstract: A. catechu is a traditional medicinal plant used for the treatment of various infectious diseases. The aim of the present study was to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of ACBE using macrophage cell lines. We evaluated the effects of ACBE on inflammatory mediator and cytokine production in lipopolysaccharide- (LPS-) stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages. ACBE significantly inhibited the production of nitric oxide (NO). The iNOS gene expression level was remarkably elevated by LPS stimulation in RAW 264.7 cells. Acacia catechu bark extract (ACBE) has significantly attenuated the expression of iNOS, as analyzed by the qPCR analysis, in a dose-dependent manner. These results suggest that ACBE may be useful as an potent anti-inflammatory agent.
