Analysis Of Association Of BstXI MT-1 Receptor Gene Polymorphism (rs748958201) Among Chronic Periodontitis Patients

Author: KARTHIKEYAN MURTHYKUMAR, SANKARI MALAIAPPAN, VIJAYASHREE PRIYADHARSINI.J
Abstract: Genetic polymorphism in the Melatonin(MT1) receptor gene is related to destruction of bone. Alveolar bone loss is a key feature of periodontitis. The present study was aimed to analyze the association of Melatonin(MT-1) receptor BstXI gene polymorphism (rs748958201) among chronic periodontitis. A total of 100 subjects were recruited for this study, which included 50 CP and 50 healthy controls. Genomic DNA was extracted from the whole blood collected from the subjects. DNA was amplified using specific primers flanking the BstXI region of the MT-2 receptor gene. The amplicon was further subjected to genotyping using restriction fragment length using BstXI enzyme. The genotype obtained based on the RFLP pattern was recorded and used for statistical analysis. The distribution of genotypes and allele frequencies in the chronic periodontitis and control groups were compared using the Chi-square test. The risk associated with individual alleles or genotypes was calculated as the odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence intervals. Statistical significance in all tests was determined at p <0.05.The CP group and control group displayed higher frequency of CC(100%). Allele frequency was also found to be similar in both groups. The C allele was found to be more predominant in the study population than A allele. The present study denotes that melatonin-1 receptor polymorphism is not associated with CP in the study group analyzed.
