Practice of sterilization of dental burs among dental students

| Abstract:
|
Background: Dental burs are used in clinical dentistry for cutting hard tissues such as bone and tooth. Dental burs are used in various procedures some of which include Dental caries, access cavity preparation and crown reduction. Sterilization is an important procedure followed from ancient years to make the instruments free from microbial infections. An online survey was conducted with a self structured questionnaire comprising 10 questions. The questionnaire was designed using the online survey platform google forms and the link was circulated through the social networking platforms to the participants. The results were analysed and with the collected responses a descriptive statistical test was performed using the statistical software “SPSS version 20” and the result was represented in the pie chart form.In the present study,awareness about the importance of sterilization of dental burs in dental treatment was analysed among the dentists and dental students,72% are aware about the importance of sterilization of dental burs in dental treatment.The study within the limitations present concludes that most of the survey participants are aware about the importance of sterilization of dental burs in dental treatment
