Establishment Of Clinical Protocol For Early Caries Detection And Minimal Intervention Using Principles Of Cambra

Author: SWARNA.S.K , NIVEDHITHA.M.S
Abstract: The caries process is the dynamic sequence of biofilm- tooth interactions that occur over time on and within a tooth surface. This process involves a shift in the balance between protective factors and destructive factors in favor of demineralization of the tooth structure over time. Caries management by risk assessment (CAMBRA) is a program for managing dental decay by assessing the patient’s risk and level of caries activity to determine the most effective treatment strategies. Incorporating CAMBRA into dental hygiene and dental programs can be beneficial for Early diagnosis by advanced diagnostic techniques, assessing patients caries risk status and treatment begins with remineralisation of white spot lesions and managing the cavitated lesions using Minimal intervention techniques. Dental caries is thus treated as an infectious disease that is curable and preventable. Emphasis is on changing the behavior and attitude of patients so that they take an active role in the management of dental decay. Clinical treatment planning should be based on the integration of systemic assessments of clinically relevant scientific evidence relating to a patient's oral and medical condition and history, patient’s treatment needs and preferences.
