Effect of Preheating on the Film Thickness of Different Composite Resin Used for Cementation of Indirect Restoration Comparative in-vitro Study

Author: ABEER GHALIB FAHMI, BASHAER ABD EL-SAHIB NAJIM
Abstract: Background and aim: Preheated conventional composite resin has been proposed as a luting material for indirect adhesive restoration for their better mechanical and handling properties. The aim of this in-vitro study was to assess the film thickness of conventional composites materials after preheating, in comparison to film thickness of resin cement at room temperature. Materials and methods: Six different resin materials were used in this study. Two resin cements (Calibra veneer cement, Relyx™ U200 as controls and four resin composite materials (Filtek™ Bulk Fill, Filtek™ Z350 XT, PALFIQUE LX5, ENA HRi). The measurement of film thickness was done according to the ISO 4049:2000; 0.5 ml of the tested material measured by a disposable syringe of 1ml size was placed between two polished glass slabs covered by myler strip. A force of (150 ± 2) N was applied. For preheated specimens, the composite was located into a thermostatically controlled (64 C°) composite warmer. Digital micrometer (INSIZE micrometer, INSIZE CO.,LTD, USA) was used for measuring the thickness of the cured composite disc. Mean values and percent of reduction of film thickness for the materials were obtained. Results: One way anova was applied which revealed a statistically significant difference in film thickness among groups (P < 0.05). For further comparison among groups post-hoc tukey test was made. Conclusion: Preheating conventional resin composites produced lower film thickness compared to that at room temperature.
