Abstract: This study has been conducted in DIYALA Governorate in Iraq, through the period from October 2019 to March 2020, in order to investigate the prevalence of bacterial vaginosis, by using Amsel's criteria and Nugent's scores. A total of 520 pregnant women 338 (65%) and non-pregnant women 182 (35%) included, the patients were subjected for sampling which included high vaginal swabs each woman, at the age ranged between (13-59) years (Mean 27.80±SD 7.19), who attended to Gynecology and Obstetrics outpatient clinics at Al-Batoul Teaching Hospital for Gynecology and Pediatrics in Diyala. vaginal swab samples were collected and direct examined for microscopic Gram stain examination. Out of 520 women investigated in this study, only 132 (25.38%) were considered as patients with bacterial vaginosis since they matched three of Amsel?s criteria. According to Nugent’s score system of Gram-stained smear which is the standard test for the diagnosis of BV, 175 (33.65%) patients were diagnosed as BV (score 7-10), and 345(66.34%) patients were without BV (score <7), from those 345 patients, 119 (22.88%) patients had an intermediate vaginal flora (score 4-6), and 226 (43.46%) patients had a normal vaginal flora (score 0-3). One hundred seventy-five patients with BV, diagnosed using the Nugent’s scoring system, 119 (68%) patients had met three of the Amsel's clinical criteria (presence of clue cells, elevated pH, and discharge).
