An approach of the plant Mesua Ferrea Linn for the venom induced consumption coagulopathy (VICC), caused by the snake Echis Carinatus (Russel viper)

Author: SIVAKUMAR.B , KAILASAM KOUMARAVELOU
Abstract: One of the most prevalent venomous snake in India is Echis Carrinatus contains the toxic proteins such as serine and metallloproteinases which alters the haemostatic system thereby it will act as haemotoxic as a result of protein denaturation ,membrane alteration and vascular permeability. Coagulopathies is a commonly encountered in the victim of viper envenomation particularly Russel viper which contains the procoagulant toxins activate the clotting pathway .This is called as venom induced consumption coagulopathy (VICC). The only treatment for is the antivenom which preventing the procoagulant toxins followed by the onset of VICC. On the other side the antivenom along with heparin treatment, but the role of heparin by controlling the procoagulant toxins is not yet proved and at the same time there were no antivenom which have placebo controlled trials for VICC. Particularly in resource poor countries where the coagulopathy can be detected by clotting test that is the whole blood clotting test. On the other side the severe development of hypersensitivity reaction was observed after the administration of immunoglobulin .By considering these reasons, an attempt to develop the plant based phytochemical and its effect on the proteolytic enzymes by preventing their procoagulant toxic proteins of Echis Carrinatus by performing anticoagulant and albumin denaturation assay.
