Rubus ellipticus: A Phyto-nutraceutical with medicinal importance

Abstract: Rubus ellipticus is a wild evergreen Asian thorny shrub found in the wildly era of the Himalayas. The plant of Rubus is heavily armed, upright, biennial stems from a woody rootstock, produce clusters of stout. Traditionally the plant Rubus used as Agroforestry to exclude the livestock animals, to mark out the land boundaries. But with the time the medicinal value is coming into knowledge. Rubus fruit has rich source in micronutrients as phenols, flavonoids, Vitamin C, sugar, protein, pectin, anthocyanins. It has very good antioxidant property, and highly efficient nutraceutical values. Not only the fruit, but also the whole plant has the highest potency of medicinal value. The root is having the property that cures fever, gastric trouble, diarrhea, dysentery, wound healing. The leaf buds treats peptic ulcer. The fruits treat fever, colic, cough and sore throats. The bark is traditionally used in Tibetan medicine, renal tonic, antidiuretics, vaginal/seminal discharge, polyurea, micturition. Many neurological disorders can also be treated through Rubus ellipticus like depression, Parkinson, epilepsy, and anxiety. The present research work is to highlight the phytochemicals and medicinal values of this wild shrub; Rubus ellipticus so that maximum medicinal benefits can be obtained scientifically.
