Green Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles Using Tamarind Seed Gum as Reducing and Stabilizing Agent

Author: NEERAJ RANI, SANJIV KUMAR, ASHOK KUMAR
Abstract: Background: In present study we have developed a well-systemized method with abridged formulation procedure and a little reaction duration. In our study we adopted the autoclaving for the synthetic route by which we can produce sterile silver nanoparticles which can be applied biologically. In present study the focus was on- synthesis, capping, stabilizing and characterization of silver nanoparticles. For this we used tamarind seed gum as capping and stabilizing agent. Results: The synthesized silver nanoparticles were confirmed by UV, IR, XRD and TEM spectral studies. Particle size distribution curve reveals that silver nanoparticles obtained are polydispersed in nature having average diameter ~80 nm and average zeta potential is -0.179 mV. The negative potential value of -0.179 indicates durable stability, colloidal characteristic and high dispersion of silver nanoparticles because of negative charges repulsion. The silver nanoparticles exhibited promising antibacterial activity against E. coli, M. luteus strains and good catalytic activity with paranitrophenol. Conclusion: An innovative viable little cost methodology was used to synthesize the silver nanoparticles using tamarind seed gum. Silver nanoparticles were produced by the use of naturally occurring tamarind seed gum which acted both as reducing and stabilizing agent. Water was used as ecologically safe solvent
