Formulation and Evaluation of Meloxicam Orally Disintegrating Tablets Using Co-Processed Super Disintegrants

| Abstract:
|
The objective of the present work is to formulate and evaluate meloxicam super disintegrating tablets using
co-processed super disintegrants. Fourier Transform-Infrared Spectroscopy, Differential Scanning Calorimetry
and Scanning Electron Microscopic studies were performed as confirmatory evaluation. Pharmaceutical
properties for powders such as Carr’s index, Hausner’s ratio and angle of repose studies were determined.
The Hardness of meloxicam tablets which are formulated using coprocessed co-processed pectin powder was
found between 3.6 – 4.6 kg/cm2 and Thickness was 3.15 – 3.95 mm. The ideal disintegration time for optimum
formulation was observed at 30±1 sec. The highest percentage of drug release for the best formulation was
observed at 20-30 min.
