Author: PRABHJOT SINGH JASSAL, KARANJIT SINGH, SUBHADIP JANA
Abstract: Combating with bacterial and fungal infections are one of the major challenge nowadays in developed as well as developing nations. Medicinal plants are considered as rich source of bioactive compounds and are famous for their antimicrobial properties. Different solvents like alcohol, acetone, methanol, ethanol, chloroform and ethyl acetate were used for the plant extract extraction, from different plant parts viz. root, stem, bark, leaf, fruit, seed etc. Antimicrobial activities of these extracts were tested by disc diffusion method against fungi, gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Present study gives a detailed insight on antimicrobial properties of nearly 40 different medicinal plants found in hilly regions of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh and would result in the future scope and analysis of medicinal plant extracts for the formulation of effective antibiotics.
