Abstract: The mainstay of diabetes management is proper diet and regular exercise, which have to be individualized. Obesity is one of the major risk factors for type 2 diabetes The western lifestyle must have unmasked the effects of pre-existing genes which has resulted in diabetes within a few decades.: The harmless and most satisfying method of reducing excess weight is through a combination of three arms: proper diet, proper behavioral changes, and adequate physical activity. For the glucose intolerant, lifestyle changes can also prevent the onset of diabetes through weight loss. The pathya prescribed in the classics are mainly Tikta, Katu, Madhura, Ruksha,Ushna, Laghu, Supachya, Dipana, Pachana, Kapahapittaghna, Medoghna&Pramehaghna. They mainly reduce VikritaKapha&Meda which are the main Dosha&Dooshya in pathogenesis of PramehaThe production of the disease and its different manifestations depend upon the predominance of Nidana (external causes), Dosha and Dooshya.ViharajaNidana: Most of the patients were indulging sedentary life style like abstinence of physical & mental work (Vyayamavarjana, Tyaktachinta), excessive sleep (Atinidra)etc. which are direct causative factors of the disease. All the sedentary life habits found ascausative factors were because of modern fast life, where none is devoting time for exercise. The sedentary life style again increases the Kapha and Meda leading to Samprapti of the disease. These factors may cause insulin resistance and decreases insulin sensitivity.
