In vitro Anti – Inflammatory Activity of Calotropis Gigantea Linn. Leaves Extract

Abstract: To evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of the alcoholic extract of Calotropis gigantea Linn. Leaves by in vitro method. Calotropis gigantea Linn. Leaves were extracted with 90% ethanol and the extract was screened for in vitro antiinflammatory activity at the doses of 200, 400 and 600 mg/kg using Muzushima and Kabayashi method. Ibuprofen (100mg/kg) was used as standard reference drug. The % inhibition of denaturation produced by Calotropis gigantea Linn. Leaves extract at the dose of 200, 400 and 600 mg/kg was 44.5%, 62.2% and 81.8% respectively when compared to control. The % inhibition of denaturation produced by Calotropis gigantea Linn. leaves extract at the dose of 600 mg/kg was comparable with that produced by Ibuprofen (85.71%). The present study indicates that Calotropis gigantea Linn. Leaves extract possess significant anti – inflammatory activity.
