Diabetes Treatment by Repaglinide Mucoadhesive Microspheres: Formulation and In Vitro - In Vivo Evaluation

Author: UPLOADED BY-ADMIN, VINAY SHARMA
Abstract: Gastric residence time of the repaglinide is increased by means of mucoadhesive Microspheres, prepared by the emulsion solvent evaporation technique, are consisting of chitosan, repaglinide- an oral hypoglycemic agent; and Eudragit RS-100. The prepared microspheres were evaluated for their shape and size, flow properties, drug encapsulation efficiency, mucoadhesive character, in vitro and in vivo drug release. The microspheres were found to be spherical and free flowing. The encapsulation efficiency was good along with high-quality mucoadhesive property. The study state that drug-polymer concentration influences the particle size and drug release properties. The drug release was slow and extended for 24 hr. .In vivo testing states significant and sustained antidiabetic effect of repaglinide in diabetic albino rats . The hypoglycemic effect obtained by mucoadhesive microspheres was for more than 16 h thus mucoadhesive microspheres offers a valuable mean for the long term delivery of repaglinide.
