A REVIEW ON ANTI –ARTHRITIC HERBS IN SIDDHA MEDICINE

Abstract: Arthritis is a common problem among elderly persons. The condition is affecting the joints of both male and female. It is possibly due to either degenerative or inflammatory changes or with the both. Age factor is also responsible for degenerative changes. It is a well-defined condition with its inflammatory phases like redness, heat, pain; swelling, fluid collection, stiffness are due to various chemical mediators like histamine, prostaglandin, bradykinin, interleukins and TNF etc. Anti-inflammatory drugs and Analgesics are used all around world widely .The use of medicinal plants becoming popular due to the adverse effect of NSAID’s & DMARD’s. Many herbs are used for their anti-inflammatory property .Now a day’s world population progress towards herbal remedies for healing of such ailments. Siddha medical system is one of the most famous Indian systems of medicine. It is helpful in treating and managing the disease using herbs, inorganic substances and animal products. Many of the Siddha medicinal plants possess the anti-arthritic property and they are commonly used in southern regions of India. Siddha system has better remedies for the treatment and management of arthritis. In this review, an attempt has been prepared to underline the work on herbs in Siddha system having anti-arthritic activity. This review may be supportive for the researchers, academician and clinician about the promising Siddha herbs having antiarthritic property.
