Synthesis of Substituted Sulfanyl 1H-Tetrazolyl Thiazolidinones

Abstract: A process was developed for the synthesis of 3-(2-(1H-tetrazol-5-ylthio)ethyl) thiazolidine-2,4-dione (4) from 3-(2-bromoethyl)thiazolidine-2,4-dione (2) with an KSCN and NaN3. Then a series of substituted 3-(2-(1H-tetrazol-5-ylthio)ethyl) thiazolidine-2,4-diones (5a-5e) were prepared by treating (4) with suitable alkyl halides. The ambient conditions, excellent product yields, easy work up procedure and short reaction time makes this synthetic strategy a better protocol for the synthesis of title compounds (5a-5e). The structures of all the compounds were established on the basis of elemental and spectral (IR, 1H NMR and mass spectral data) studies.
