                                                                Mixture of p - acetophenoneand sodium hydroxide were added to ethanol followed by vanillin addition. This reactions
yield, 3-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-1-(4-nitrophenyl) prop-2-en-1-one, 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-(4-hydroxy-3-
methoxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one, 1-(4-bromophenyl)-3-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-one, and 3-(4-
hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-1-(4-iodophenyl)prop-2-en-1-one. Serial other reactions were performed to synthesized
twelve other compounds which were identified by melting point, IR spectrometer, and two of them were by 1H- N.M.
R spectra. Some of the prepared compounds were evaluated for antibacterial activity which showed promising effect
as antibiotics.
