Anti-venom activity of ethanolic extract of leaves of Ampelocissusaraneosa

Author: SELLAMUTHU VENKATESH, ANGAPPANSHEELA
Abstract: The objective for the current study was to investigate the anti-venom activity of leaves of Ampelocissusaraneosaextract. The air dried powdered leaves of Ampelocissusaraneosa was extracted with ethanol by using the Soxhlet extractor. The prepared extract was subjected to acute toxicity study and in-vitroprocoagulant activitiesand in-vivo neutralization anti-venom activity and effect of bleeding time in mice. Acute toxicity study was carried out according to the OECD guidelines 425. The in-vivo neutralization anti-venom activity of extract was performed on Swiss Albino mice. The results of acute toxicity study revealed that the Ampelocissusaraneosaextract was safe till 2000 mg/kg body weight. The 200 and 400 mg/kg of ethanolic extract of leaves of Ampelocissusaraneosasignificantly neutralizes the lethality (up to 2 folds) induced by the Najanajavenom in both invitro and in-vivo anti-venom activities and exert potent anti-venom activity both in-vitro and in-vivo.
