An Option to Replace Nicotine: A Review

Author: UPLOADED BY-ADMIN, SHIVHARE SC, SUJANE MJ, DADHORE KK, BONDRE AV
Abstract: The aim of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) is temporarily to replace much of the nicotine from cigarettes to reduce motivation to smoke and nicotine withdrawal symptoms, thus easing the transition from cigarette smoking to complete abstinence. Nicotine is an addictive drug of tobacco products. Regular smokers develop withdrawal symptoms when they try to quit smoking. Only few smokers succeed even though they want to quit smoking because nicotine addiction is strong and difficult to break. NRT can help these smokers to quit smoking and relieved from the withdrawal syndromes. The health problems from cigarettes, such as lung and heart diseases, are due to the tar and other chemicals in cigarettes. So, taking NRT instead of smoking is one step towards a healthier life.NRT is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. NRT is most effective when used in conjunction with behavioral and other types of non-pharmacological cessation interventions. This review presents the details of NRT, different types of NRT and how they are useful in smoking cessation.
