Abstract: Anxiety is an emotion that predates the evolution of man. It’s presence in a range of anxiety disorders and it’s ubiquity in humans makes it an important clinical focus. The word anxiety is derived from the Latin “anxietas” and encompasses behavioral, affective and cognitive responses to the perception of danger. Several factors like genetics, an overactive fight-flight response, brain biochemistry, learned behavior and stressful life circumstances play a role in initiating anxiety. All teens experience some amount of anxiety at times. Anxiety is actually a normal reaction to stress, and sometimes it helps teens deal with tense or overwhelming situations. It is when feelings of anxiety interfere with normal daily living, the presence of an anxiety disorder should be considered. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, approximately 25% of 13- to 18-year-olds have an anxiety disorder, and just under 6% have a severe anxiety disorder. A questionnaire was prepared on survey planet app and the survey was administered to 100 young adults of the age ranging from 19-26. The survey was conducted among 100 people about their awareness of anxiety and to check how anxious they are. Data was collected and put into pie charts to display the results. It is observed that among the 100 young adult population, 19% are always self conscious which leads to anxious feeling, 25% are indecisive sometimes which can lead to stress, 16% always have this sense of isolation around people whether they know them or not, 17% suffer from social anxiety in social situations where they fear to interact and 23% suffer from general anxiety which includes worrying for no reason and having panic attacks. 18% have mental breakdowns easily, 35% avoid socialising in public and 36% they are always anxious on a normal basis. Awareness was created about anxiety and it’s disorders. Most of the participants showed signs of anxiety in different aspects. Anxiety is curable and can be treated in various ways such as music, therapies, self care, medications and interactive sessions.
