Knowledge and Awareness on The Impact of Overuse of Screen Technology Among School Children - A Questionnaire Based Study

Abstract: For many children, television and media have become a common and popular pastime. When the children overuse the screen technology it gets risky. This is one of the biggest problems in this growing world of technology.The aim of the present study is to study the awareness on the impact of overuse of screen technology among school children. A descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted among 100 school children to assess their knowledge and awareness on overuse of screen technology. Self administered questionnaire of close ended questions was prepared and it was distributed among the children from the age group of 13 to 17 years through the online survey google forms. The responses were collected,tabulated in excel sheet and analysed using SPSS software. Chi square test was used to compare the age group of the children and awareness on overuse of screen technology with statistical significance of p<0.05. 56% of them responded that overuse of technology can cause computer vision syndrome, 51% of them suggested taking up another hobby for boredom, 67% of respondents said that overuse of screen technology affects their communication, 43% of them say that 1 to 2 is healthy screen time. School children need to be more aware of the effect of screen technology and many awareness programs need to be carried out for their healthy lives.
