Evaluation of the awareness of different treatments to replace missing teeth among patients Attending Al Iraqia University-college of dentistry

Abstract: Background: Several options available to replace missing teeth. Awareness of the patients towards the replacement is very important so they can choose the type of treatment required. Aim of the study: It includes an evaluation of the level of knowledge and awareness in patients visiting Al-Iraqia University about choosing different treatment options to replace their missing teeth. Materials and Methods: patients attended to our educational clinic (Prosthodontic &Conservative Departments ) at Al Iraqia University received a self-administered questioner . these focused on choosing the preferable treatment to replace the missing teeth and there awareness toward this subject. The number of patients were (306) who took place in this survey ( all of them were partially edentulous patients with exception of the third molars). Males were (150) and females were( 156) .Then by the use of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version-16.Descriptive statistics the data were analyzed. Results: In this study it was found that for fixed partial denture the awareness of patients was 39% and for removable partial denture was12% while the highest percentage was for dental implants 49%. Conclusion: In general the dentist and oral health care providers have a great role to educate the patients and increase their awareness about choosing the best treatment options for replacement of their missing teeth .
