Incidence Of Patients With Tmj Internal Derangement Managed By Arthrocentesis Procedure

Author: JAGADISH RAJKUMAAR, DR. SIVA KUMAR M, DR. SS RAJ
Abstract: To analyse the incidence of TMJ internal derangement treated by arthrocentesis procedure. TMJ disk derangement is also known as the displacement of the articular disk to an improper position in relation to the condyle and eminence. Disk displacement with reduction is characterized by obstruction in the condylar sliding and the mouth opening is limited and disk displacement without reduction is characterized by limited mouth opening that gradually develops with a history of clicking sounds. Arthrocentesis is a minimally invasive procedure which has demonstrated success in treating such cases our study aims at analyzing the incidence and prevalence of the disease and treatment. The study was done under a university setting SIMATS. The sample collection was done from june 2019-april 2020. The data collection was done by patient management software DIAS the inclusion criteria included patients with TMJ internal derangement ( confirmed) and treatment by arthrocentesis. The data were further tabulated and analysed by SPSS software by statistical tests like chi square analysis. Higher prevalence of TMJ internal derangement and the arthrocentesis procedure is seen in females. 10-30 years age group showed higher predominance. By within the limits of the study, We conclude that higher prevalence of arthrocentesis procedure is seen in females and the most common incidence age group was found to be 10-30 years
