Knowledge Awareness And Practice Of Zygomatic And Basal Implant Among Dentists – Survey

Author: J.ATHIBAN RAJ, SUBHASHREE.R, THIYANESWARAN NESAPPAN, DR.ABHINAV RAJENDRA PRABHU
Abstract: Awareness and knowledge is increasing for the patient about zygomatic and basal implant thus demands a higher level of competence for the dentist. The dentist with any speciality requires basic knowledge about zygomatic and basal implant therapy so that they can educate and guide patients to undergo implant therapy whenever needed. Conventional implant treatment can't be performed within the edentulous maxilla in some patients because of advanced bone resorption and/or the presence of extensive maxillary sinuses, leading to inadequate amounts of bone tissue for anchorage of the implants. Zygomatic implants can be placed to overcome the non acceptance of placement of endosseous implants. Basal implants acquire retention from the basal bone which usually remains free from the infection and less prone to resorption and failure. The current survey assessed the knowledge and awareness regarding the use, complication and practice of zygomatic and basal implants.
