Preformulation study of solid dosage form to ensure a stable, efficacious, safe and comfortable product: A review

Author: AHMAD AINUROFIQ, HAYUNDA I’ZAAZ FAJRIN, FEBRIANI, ANAS FITRIANA, DELLA ANDRIYANI
Abstract: Preformulation studies are the initial stage used in the development of drug dosage forms. Every drug has intrinsic physical and chemical properties that have been considered before the development of pharmaceutical formulation. Preformulation investigations are designed to collect all necessary data such as physicochemical, physicomechanical, packaging materials, biopharmaceutical properties of drug substances and excipients. The purpose of the preformulation study is to provide information that is useful for formulators in developing stable dosage forms and bioavailability that can be used on a large scale. This review provides information on preformulation parameters such as chemical, physical, stability, and solubility. The main objective of this review is to focus on diverse preformulation factors that clearly impact the development of dosage form of solid drug to ensure a stable, efficacious, safe and comfortable final pharmaceutical product.
