Author: SUBASHRI.A , DHANRAJ GANAPATHY
Abstract: Fixed partial dentures are the most commonly used fixed type of prosthesis for patients who can’t place implants due to various reasons/factors. They are susceptible to several common problems such as gingivitis ,periodontal disease ,debonding ,occlusal trauma and recurrent caries. The most important criteria aided in increased success of fixed partial denture in evaluation of abutment health.Evaluation of abutment selection is considered an integral part of diagnosis and treatment planning in fixed partial dentures. This cross sectional study was done to evaluate awareness about health of the abutments used for fixed partial dentures. The study involved 209 participants. 64.11% were aware of crown root ratio and lack of awareness which is about 35.89%. 80.38% were aware of abutment length estimation and lack of awareness which is about 19.62%. Strong association was observed with graduation levels and awareness about abutment health with regards to crown root ratio, radiographic caries, pulpal status and also periapical lesion.
